Meet Silver Skies Episcia, a flame violet with leaves that look brushed in moonlight. This cultivar of Episcia has soft, quilted leaves washed in shimmering silver and edged in deep bronze-green. Each one is a little different, so the plant is worth a close look.
Episcias are cousins of the African violet, native to the warm, humid forest floors of Central and South America. 'Silver Skies' grows in a low rosette and sends out runners that root wherever they land, so it makes a lush trailing display in a hanging pot and a natural fit for terrariums. In good conditions, small, bright flowers may appear among the silver.
Care snapshot
- Light: Bright, indirect light keeps the silver at its best. Avoid harsh direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.
- Water: Keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy, and water when the top half-inch starts to dry. It loves humidity, which is why it thrives in terrariums.
- Difficulty: Intermediate. It's easygoing once it's settled, but it doesn't like dry air or cold drafts.
- Pet-safety: Considered non-toxic to cats and dogs.
What you'll receive
Plants are living things, so the Silver Skies Episcia you receive will have its own character and may look slightly different from the photo. That's part of the charm.
Silver Skies brings a quiet shimmer to any shelf, terrarium or windowsill, and rewards a little attention with runners you can share. Give one a home and watch it settle in and spread.
