BIOS Herbal Plant Soap Concentrate

Clean leaves, happy plant. BIOS Herbal Plant Soap Concentrate is a biodegradable leaf soap for houseplants that clears away dust and grime, leaves foliage with a natural glow, and gives you a gentle first line of defence when your leaves start looking off.

Made in Canada by BIOS Nutrients, it's a potassium soap built on certified-organic canola oil infused with garlic, ginger, cinnamon bark, licorice root, white willow bark and angelica root. In plain terms: it's a true soap (18% potassium salts of fatty acids) that breaks down on its own in about 5–10 days, so there's nothing to rinse or wipe off afterward. Mixed, it has no smell — which matters when your jungle lives in the living room.

At a glance

• Use it for: Cleaning and shining leaves, routine plant maintenance, and helping with stubborn leaf problems.
• Mix: Concentrate — dilute with soft water (reverse osmosis, distilled or rain water). A 240 ml bottle makes about 24 L of spray; 480 ml makes about 48 L.
• Difficulty: Beginner — mix, spray, let dry. No wiping, no rinsing.
• Pet-safety: Once diluted, BIOS describes it as non-toxic and safe to use indoors around pets and kids. The concentrate is strongly alkaline, so store it out of reach. [VERIFY]

How to use it

• Maintenance: 5–8 pumps (6–10 ml) per litre of water. Spray foliage 1–2 times a month.
• Leaf problems: 8–16 pumps (10–20 ml) per litre. Spray every 3–5 days, for at least 3 applications.
• Let it dry: Give leaves about 10 minutes to dry before they go back under grow lights.
• Leaves only: Don't water it into the soil — at a pH of 11.5+, it can stunt roots and growth.

Good to know

• Not for use on ferns, and spot-test a leaf or two first on rare or sensitive plants.
• It will affect beneficial insects, so spray before you introduce beneficials to a plant or vivarium — not after.
• It won't lift hard-water spots; those need something mildly acidic, like diluted vinegar.
• The concentrate never expires, and mixed spray keeps indefinitely when stored properly.
