Meet the philodendron that glows like a sunset. Philodendron Red Sun is a compact, self-heading hybrid of Philodendron whose new leaves unfurl in fiery shades of red, orange, and copper, then slowly settle into deeper, richer tones as they mature.

Philodendrons trace their roots to the tropical forests of Central and South America. Unlike its vining cousins, Red Sun grows in a tidy rosette from a central crown, so it stays neat on a tabletop or shelf instead of wandering across the room. Every new leaf is a small event, and a healthy plant puts on a steady show of colour through the growing season.

Care snapshot

  • Light: Bright, indirect light keeps the new growth at its most vivid. Too little light and the colours fade toward green.
  • Water: When the top inch or two of soil is dry, usually every 7 to 10 days. A chunky, well-draining aroid mix keeps the roots happy.
  • Difficulty: Beginner. Forgiving, slow to sulk, and quick to recover.
  • Pet-safety: Toxic to cats and dogs if chewed or eaten. Best kept out of reach of curious pets.

What you'll receive

Why you'll love it

Big colour, small footprint, and an easygoing nature that suits a first-time plant owner as well as a seasoned collector. Give it a bright spot, a little patience, and a home. We'll handle the obsessing.
