Quiet luxury, in leaf form. The Scindapsus Jade Satin plant is a cultivar of Scindapsus pictus with thick, solid jade-green leaves that have a soft, satiny sheen. It doesn't have the silver spots its cousins are known for, just deep, even colour that catches the light as you walk by.
Scindapsus grow wild in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, where they climb up tree trunks. At home, Jade Satin is happy to trail from a shelf or hanging pot. If you give it a moss pole or plank to climb, it will usually grow bigger leaves over time. It grows at a steady, relaxed pace, so it's easy to keep looking tidy.
Care snapshot
- Light: Medium to bright indirect light. It handles lower light well, but grows faster with more.
- Water: Water when the top half of the soil is dry. When the leaves curl slightly, that's its polite way of asking for a drink. Use a chunky, well-draining tropical mix.
- Difficulty: Beginner. It tolerates the odd missed watering and doesn't need much attention.
- Pet-safety: Toxic to cats and dogs if eaten. Keep it out of reach of curious pets.
What you'll receive
Plants are living things, so your Jade Satin will have its own personality and may look slightly different from the photo. That's part of the charm.
Calm, polished and easy to live with, Jade Satin is a great pick for anyone who likes a clean, simple look, or for a collector who already has the splashy ones. Give it a spot on your shelf and watch it settle in.
